If they can’t manage to secure a decisive victory in that time, they’ll likely begin to pull back. Particularly if the sanctions increase. Right now assets are ‘frozen’. Let talk begin of ‘seizing’ those assets. The mafia in Russia can stand to have their money tied up for a short time, but if they’re looking at the possibilities of having it SEIZED.. that’s hundreds of billions they lose overnight. They won’t stand for that. Even if it starts small – a little in this country, a little in this one. Beginning seizures of those assets will be the last steps in the sanctions process and the one that ends the war. But as you can, direct military conflict between the US & Russia is out. The first Russian killed by an American over there will be all the ‘justification’ Putin needs to go all in on the war.
