You could have more reasons but I noticed a very common one is escapism. It’s much easier to have delusions of grandeur and throw yourself into a grand cause and a made up bad guy than deal with your own failures, inadequacies and harsh reality. It’s crazy because it doesn’t matter what side you are own. If you’re the victim, your failures and short-comings aren’t your fault, they were foisted upon you your oppressors. You would have been great if not for them. As a bonus, all your shitty, anti-social, destructive, childish behavior is justified because you are simply fighting an oppressor. They made you do it through their oppressive actions. You’re actually the hero if you think about it.
